Arrive at Velana International Airport in Male, the main gateway to the Maldives. As you step out of the airport, you’ll immediately feel the warm tropical air and catch your first glimpse of the stunning turquoise waters that make this destination famous.

After clearing customs and immigration, you’ll be greeted by our representative and assisted with your transfer to your chosen resort. Depending on your resort’s location, the transfer may be by:

• Speedboat (20-60 minutes) – For resorts close to Male

• Seaplane (30-60 minutes) – For resorts in more remote atolls, offering spectacular aerial views of the island chain

The seaplane transfer itself is a bucket-list experience, flying low over the scattered atolls and watching the colors of the ocean shift from deep blue to turquoise to emerald green as you approach your island .

Upon arrival at your resort, you’ll be welcomed with refreshing coconut water or tropical juice and escorted to your accommodation. Settle into your room – perhaps an overwater villa with direct lagoon access, or a beach villa steps from the sand – and begin unwinding in paradise.

Take the remainder of the day to relax, explore the island at your leisure, and acclimatize to the serene island lifestyle. Walk barefoot on the powdery sand, dip your toes in the warm Indian Ocean, and watch your first Maldivian sunset paint the sky in shades of orange and pink.

Welcome Dinner: Enjoy your first taste of Maldivian and international cuisine at your resort’s main restaurant. Most resorts offer buffet dining with live cooking stations, featuring fresh seafood, international dishes, and local specialties, all prepared with halal ingredients.

Spend the morning swimming in the impossibly clear lagoon. The water is typically calm, warm (28-30°C year-round), and so clear you can see your toes even in chest-deep water.

After breakfast, embark on one of the Maldives’ most beloved experiences – a dolphin cruise. The waters around the Maldives are home to several species of dolphins, including spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and spotted dolphins .

Your boat will cruise through the atoll, and the crew will use their local knowledge to locate dolphin pods. When found, the dolphins often put on a spectacular show, leaping and spinning alongside the boat – a truly magical experience that delights visitors of all ages. The best time for dolphin watching is typically late afternoon, but morning cruises also offer good opportunities.

Following your dolphin encounter, visit a sandbank – a temporary island of pure white sand that appears only at low tide, surrounded by endless turquoise water. These ephemeral islands are among the most beautiful spots in the Maldives.

Step onto the sandbank and feel like you’ve discovered your own private paradise. The water here is incredibly shallow and clear, perfect for wading and photography. Your guide will take you to locations chosen for their healthy coral formations and abundant marine life. Typical snorkeling sites might include:

• Coral gardens – Shallow areas with spectacular hard and soft corals in every color imaginable

• Fish aggregation points – Where large schools of fish gather

• Turtle cleaning stations – Spots where hawksbill and green turtles regularly visit to be cleaned by small fish

• Reef channels – Where the current brings nutrient-rich water and larger pelagic fish

Marine life you might encounter includes:

• Reef fish – Angelfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish, surgeonfish, clownfish (Nemo!), and hundreds more

• Turtles – Both hawksbill and green turtles are commonly seen

• Reef sharks – Harmless blacktip and whitetip reef sharks

• Rays – Eagle rays and stingrays gliding gracefully over the sand

• Moray eels – Peeking from holes in the reef

• Napoleon wrasse – Massive, friendly fish often approaching snorkelers

Your guide will provide instructions on snorkeling techniques, safety, and how to interact respectfully with the marine environment (look but don’t touch!).

Lunch is typically served on a local island or on a sandbank, giving you a glimpse of Maldivian island life beyond the resorts.

Today offers a fascinating contrast to the resort experience as you visit the capital city, Male, and perhaps a local inhabited island. After breakfast, take a speedboat transfer back to Male for a guided city tour.

Male is one of the world’s most densely populated cities, packed with history, culture, and vibrant local life despite its small size (just 5.8 square kilometers). Your tour will include:

The Grand Friday Mosque (Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam) – The largest mosque in the Maldives, capable of accommodating over 5,000 worshippers. Its golden dome is a Male landmark, and the mosque’s architecture blends traditional Islamic design with modern elements . Non-Muslim visitors can admire the exterior and the attached Islamic Center.

The Old Friday Mosque (Hukuru Miskiy) – Dating back to 1656, this coral stone mosque is a UNESCO World Heritage tentative site. The intricate coral carvings on its walls and the beautiful lacquer work inside represent the pinnacle of traditional Maldivian craftsmanship. The mosque is still in use, and visitors are welcome outside prayer times .

Maldives National Museum – Located in the Sultan Park, the museum houses an extraordinary collection of artifacts spanning Maldivian history, from pre-Islamic Buddhist relics to royal thrones, palanquins, and intricately carved wooden panels from ancient mosques .

Muliaage – The official residence of the President of the Maldives, a beautiful colonial-style building.

The Fish Market is a sensory experience, with fishermen bringing in the day’s catch and auctioneers selling fresh tuna, reef fish, and other seafood. The Local Market (vegetable and fruit market) offers colorful displays of tropical produce.

After lunch at a local halal restaurant in Male, continue to a nearby local inhabited island (such as Villingili or Hulhumale) to experience everyday Maldivian life. Visit a local school, see how families live, and perhaps stop at a local cafe for “hedhikaa” (Maldivian short eats) like bajiyaa (samosas with fish filling) and gulha (fried dough balls with smoked fish).

Important Note: When visiting Male and local islands, dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) out of respect for local culture.

Depending on your flight time, you may have several hours to enjoy the resort’s facilities. Many resorts offer late check-out options for an additional fee, or provide day-use rooms and facilities for guests with evening flights.

• Beach walk to collect a few small shells (ensure they’re empty and legal to take)

• Shopping at the resort boutique for souvenirs

Departure Transfer: Our representative will coordinate your transfer back to Velana International Airport – by speedboat or seaplane, depending on your resort’s location. The journey offers final breathtaking views of the atolls you’ve called home.
